Hugues Yusen Naas

Hugues Yusen Naas (1952-2023)

Hugues Yusen Naas was born in Strasbourg in 1952. He began practising zazen in 1975 and received his monk's ordination in 1977 from Master Deshimaru, whom he followed until the latter's death. He taught the Dharma for 25 years at the Strasbourg dojo.

In 2009, he received Dharma transmission from Master Dôkô Raphaël Triet.

From summer 2002 to summer 2016, he was in charge of the Zen temple at La Gendronnière, overseeing maintenance, improvements and the organisation of daily life for residents, as well as welcoming sesshins and groups. He also taught in the dojo. He then left La Gendronnière to found Daishugyôji Zen Temple, which he ran until 2023, presiding over the Daishugyo Zen Association. He also directed sesshins in France and abroad.
