La Gendronnière zen Temple
The Zen temple at La Gendronnière is a gathering place for all the European sanghas (community of practitioners) in the lineage of Master Taisen Deshimaru. This Japanese missionary introduced the practice of Zen to Europe in the late 1960s.
Following his death in 1982, his successors made La Gendronnière the mother temple of European Zen. Monthly retreats are organized here, and the summer months offer a unique opportunity for all practitioners to gather and practice together, according to the rules of a traditional monastery.
