Autumn Sesshin 2026

Autumn Sesshin (Zen meditation retreat) led by Simone Jikô Wolf at La Gendronnière temple, from November 6 to 8, 2026 (arrival the day before in the late afternoon).

This sesshin will follow on from the Gyôji week, which will take place from 3 to 8 November.

Beginners will be given an introduction to the practice on the evening of arrival.

Participating in a sesshin is the best way for those who wish to explore the Zen path within a Buddhist monastery. This progressive experience will allow you to participate each day in teachings and enriching exchanges with elders of the tradition.

You will immerse yourself in the values of community life and experience the ceremonies and rituals that are emblematic of this thousand-year-old tradition.

The days are punctuated by four zazen sessions. The temple provides zafu (meditation cushions) and benches for meditation. The daily programme also includes meals taken in silence and the practice of samu, service to the community.

A disciple of Master Taisen Deshimaru, Jikō Simone Wolf practised with him in Paris and at La Gendronnière and owes her entry into the Way (tokudo - nun's ordination) to him.

In 1982, she set up a Zen centre in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 2004, she received the transmission of the Dharma from Yuko Okamoto Roshi and became a member of the official Sôtô Zen teachers in Europe.

With the practitioners who have gathered around her over the years, she founded the Zen temple of Kōsetsu-ji in 2009, of which she is the abbess and where she currently resides.

She held the position of Abbess of La Gendronnière from August 2017 to April 2019.

She is also a member of the Spiritual Council and the Board of Directors of the International Zen Association and has been leading sesshins and workshops at the Zen temple of La Gendronnière for many years.
