Taisen Deshimaru

La Gendronnière, the first Zen temple in Europe, aims to spread the Dharma and promote its development. This deep wish of its founder, Master Taisen Deshimaru, can only be realised thanks to the generosity of the sangha.

The mission of the Association Zen de la Gendronnière (AZG) is to support the practice of Sôtô Zen at this location. Its resources come exclusively from the gifts, donations and bequests of the greater sangha.

What is the purpose of your gifts, bequests and donations?

  • Supporting the monks, nuns and bodhisattvas who wish to stay at La Gendronnière. To this end, the AZG has set up a solidarity fund to help them cover their monthly living expenses.
  • To maintain the places dedicated to worship, the garden of the passed and the house of the ancestors.
  • To record the ordination ceremonies and organise ceremonies and commemorations at the La Gendronnière temple.
  • To provide traditional training retreats for ordained persons and dojo and zazen group leaders.

AZI, the owner of the premises, delegates all these functions to AZG. AZG has signed an agreement with AZI to make certain premises specifically related to worship available in return for a fee.

Advantageous tax deductions

The AZG has a special tax regime that allows it to:

  • Receive donations and bequests free of inheritance tax.
  • Issue tax receipts to deduct your donations from income tax.

In France, donations to the AZG are 66% deductible from income tax.

If you are taxable in France, you can deduct donations to AZG from your income tax up to 66%, up to a limit of 20% of your taxable income.

Example:

  • If you donate €100, it will cost you €34
  • If you donate €200, it will cost you €68
  • If you donate €500, it will cost you €170

Thanks to European case law, donations made to AZG are deductible from income tax regardless of the donor's country of residence.

The practice of giving, dana paramita, is the first of the Buddhist practices. Temples and monasteries have always been created and maintained thanks to the donations of practitioners.

How to make a donation?

Religious associations that are exclusively dedicated to the financing and organisation of religious ceremonies, practices and rites, which may be public, have a religious purpose.

Associations with a religious purpose may receive donations or bequests (such as associations recognised as being of public utility) in connection with the practice of religion, with exemption from inheritance tax.

Donations made by individuals may be eligible for tax deduction (such as donations to general interest associations).

The AZG was recognised as a religious association by prefectural decree on 24 July 2013. On 10 October 2013, the tax authorities authorised the AZG to receive donations eligible for tax deduction as well as bequests and donations free of inheritance tax.
