Monastic garden care

From May 5 to May 10, 2026, a Gyoji week dedicated to caring for La Gendronnière and its environment will take place. The program includes work in the monastic garden. The week will be led by Master Alain Tainan Liebmann.

Participants will also be able to take part in other activities serving the community, such as cooking, gardening, or tidying up.

Alain Tainan Liebmann was born in Paris in 1945, he met Master Deshimaru and regularly followed his teachings at the Paris dojos (Montparnasse, Pernety) until his death in 1982. He was ordained as a bodhisattva in 1970 and as a monk in 1976.

He continued with the same perseverance at the dojo in Paris until 1991, when he left for Ireland alone, where he created several dojos (Dublin, Cork, Galway).

He was also a godo at the Gendronnière summer camps for four years (1998 to 2001) and runs sesshins in Ireland and Europe.

He regularly visits Gotanjo-ji, Takefu (Fukui Prefecture), the temple of Koshu Itabashi Zenji. He received a 25-stripe silk-lined kesa from him, sewn by the disciples of Kodo Sawaki.

He was abbot at the temple of La Gendronnière from May 2021 to January 2024 and is currently vice-abbot.
