Rohatsu sesshin, retreat in silence
Silent Sesshin in homage to Buddha's Enlightenment
December 1 to 7, 2024
Every year, monks in temples commemorate the Buddha's enlightenment. Sitting in zazen (Zen meditation), they re-enact his experience.
Rôhatsu sesshin takes place in silence, each person facing the other. It's fairly intensive, but open to all (see daily schedule below).
The 30-minute zazen sessions alternate with kin-hin (walking meditation).
It concludes with a grand ceremony in honor of Buddha's Awakening.
Master Emmanuel Ryugaku Risacher
Ryugaku Emmanuel Risacher will lead the session. Ordained bodhisattva in 1972 and monk in 1981 by Master Deshimaru. A forester by trade, he left the forest to become a permanent member of the AZI head office in Paris in January 2000. In November 2008, he received Dharma transmission from Genshu Imamura Roshi, at La Gendronnière. From 2016 to 2019, he was in charge of La Gendronnière.
